The television adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is reportedly set to premiere in 2018, with Idris Elba confirmed to star.

Both Elba and Matthew McConaughey were confirmed to be starring in the film adaptation earlier this year (March 2), with McConaughey portraying Walter Padick aka the Man in Black, with Elba portraying Roland Deschain aka the Gunslinger.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, the film will be a companion to the eventual television series, which is reportedly planned to run between 10 and 13 episodes according to Entertainment Weekly:”depending on how the scripts and story arcs develop.”

EW have also reported that Akiva Goldsman (the films executive producer and co-screenwriter) will be helming the television series. Goldsman says: “In the movie, Roland is suffering tremendous loss. The most concrete, personal, existential heartbreak a character can have. If the movie chronicles his final reach toward hope again, the TV show is the loss of that hope.”

There’s no word as of yet if McConaughey will be starring in the television series.
