John Lewis have released their Christmas advert for 2016, featuring Buster the Boxer.
The advert sees our canine protagonist watching as his young female owner bounces on her bed on the night before Christmas. After she falls asleep, her father boldly and bravely manages to put together a garden trampoline for her- which is a pretty awesome present. But while other woodland animals such as foxes, a badger, a hedgehog and a squirrel sneak onto the new plaything and enjoy it, poor Buster is left merely to gaze longingly at it, to the backing track of ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’ by The Vaults.
That is until Christmas Day. As the doors are opened, and while Bridget gazes in wonder and happiness at her present, Buster is straight into the action bouncing up and down joyfully, much to the bemusement of his owners (and also a very bemused passer-by). The message is clear; John Lewis provides ‘Gifts that everybody will love.’
In what seems to have become a marker for the inevitable countdown for festivities to begin, the release of the John Lewis advert this year has drawn a variety of comments, with some praising it’s heartfelt and warm nature, but others suggesting it has ruined Christmas for children by inferring that Santa Claus does not exist.
Even so, this year’s offering is much more heartfelt and comical, unlike some of the previous tearjerkers that they have come up with. And with a week (and a year) like this, perhaps we all need a bit of a pep up. Check out the advert below:
