Lin-Manuel Miranda seems to be as non-stop as Alexander Hamilton these days! It was announced that following the recent success of Disney’s Moana, he is set to work on another animated movie. His original musical Vivo, has found a home with Sony Pictures, and is set to hit cinemas in 2020.

The film tells the story of a capuchin monkey, “with a thirst for adventure and a passion for music” and follows the character as he “makes a treacherous passage from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny.”

The film partners him with his previous partner in crime, Quiara Alegria Hudes, with whom he wrote In the Heightsas well as High School Musical writer Peter Barsocchini and director of The Croods, Kirk De Micco. Sony have dubbed the film a top priority and have gone into production straight away, with Miranda having already penned 11 songs for its soundtrack.

This marks the end of a truly successful year for Miranda, with Hamilton expanding to three more cities as well as winning a Pulitzer Prize, Moana making over $242 million at the box office, and the Hamilton Mixtape debuting at no. 1. As well as this project, he is also currently working on the music for the live action remake of The Little Mermaid, as well as being in pre-production for Mary Poppins Returns, in which he stars alongside Emily Blunt.

Vivo is due for release in December 2020. Listen to one of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s original songs from Moana below:
