It was announced today by the RSC that their acclaimed musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda is to tour the UK and Ireland for the first time next year.
The musical, adapted by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, has been playing in Cambridge Theatre in London as well as on Broadway.
The musical has been received well by both fans and critics alike, scoring Tony and Olivier awards, emphasising its credibility both here and in the US. The narrative follows that of the original Dahl novel, but with Minchin’s music, paired with stunning set design, becomes a whole new treat.
The UK tour is set to embark in March 2018, with dates having been announced in Leicester, Dublin, Sunderland, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff. However, it has been said that there are still more dates and venues to be announced for 2019. Here’s hoping that Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre makes the cut!
