Review: Katy B, Craig David & Major Lazer – ‘Who Am I’

London-based singer-songwriter Katy B has teamed up with Southampton’s comeback king Craig David and electronic maestros Major Lazer for her latest single, ‘Who Am I’.

The track emulates the type of R&B duets we’ve seen over the past decade or so, with Katy B providing the lead in the track and David providing his silky smooth vocals as a response. However, considering the recent commercial success both artists have had with upbeat tracks full of energy, ‘Who Am I’ goes in a different, slower direction, which frankly is rather disappointing.

If you’re after a more relaxed, laid back R&B song then this may well be for you, but considering the artists involved, Major Lazer included, you’d expect ‘Who Am I’ to offer a bit more than it does. It just seems a tad boring. There is no breakdown or build up and the tempo very much remains the same throughout. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song, or at least I think it has the potential to grow on you over time, but it just feels a bit dull.

‘Who Am I’ is available now via Virgin EMI Records.
