Looks like the Doctor will be a feature on television screens for quite a while yet – show runner Stephen Moffat has announced that the show has been green lit for a ninth series which is set to air in 2015.
Moffat recently said in Doctor Who Magazine that for the eight series “We’re not going to do splits, and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that – so it will be the traditional form,”
In December it was announced that Peter Capaldi’s first series as the Doctor (the eight series of the show since its revival in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the eponymous hero) will air in one single run, rather than as a split series as previous series have been aired. Filming for the new series started this week, with Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.
The new series is expected to air in August 2014 on the BBC.
