Southampton to run ‘University Challenged’ competition

An internal version of the popular BBC Two academic quiz show, University Challenge will run within the University of Southampton in early 2016.

The University Challenged competition will see teams of staff and students competing together and is open to all faculties and professional services. Team members from this year’s University Challenge team will also be writing the questions.

Speaking of the event, organiser Tony Curran said: “Our competition will have a similar format to the TV show but questions will not be so highbrow! Our aim is for everyone involved to have fun – those taking part and those who come to watch.”

Each team must be composed of two undergraduates, one postgraduate and one staff member to reflect the university population and bring staff and students together. Mixed gender teams are encouraged. Individuals can also sign up, including members of professional services, and will be put in composite teams by organisers.

The competition will take place on Tuesday evenings between 6:30-8pm from 2nd February, culminating in a grand final on Tuesday 15th March. Prizes will be awarded throughout the competition.
