Chris Hemsworth stars in the latest trailer for In The Heart of the Sea – watch

Despite a delay in its release, things are very much still full speed ahead for Ron Howard’s seagoing thriller, In The Heart Of The Sea, as demonstrated by a new trailer.

Adapted from Nathaniel Philbrick’s biography of the same name, the movie relays the misadventures of a whaling expedition aboard a ship called the Essex – led by Captain George Pollard, Jr. (Benjamin Walker) and first mate Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth) – after it comes out second best in an encounter with an angry sperm whale.

Being adrift in small boats in the Pacific has been explored in cinema before; Unbroken and Kon-Tiki also capture that terrifying moment when the wind drops and you’re suddenly 4000 miles from land with only a flying fish to gnaw on, but this latest film takes us to new and terrifying places.

The new promo treads similar territory to the last trailer, but ups the drama when the massive whale decides to go down hard on the Essex – and it doesn’t leave them alone even when the ship is little more than a debris-strewn memory.

Howard’s cast also boasts Michelle Fairley, Charlotte Riley, Jordi Molla, Tom Holland, Sam Keeley and Cillian Murphy among those who either set sail or must deal with the aftermath.

In The Heart Of The Sea will be released later this year on 26th December.
