1972 is the lead single from Alexis King’s eponymously named EP and, if its anything to go by, the EP is a must have. The song opens with good effect, holding you in suspense while teasing the hints of the rock song that is to come. Gradually the song develops into a song reminiscent of early Black Keys work – some great work on drums supplemented with scintillating guitar riffs. This proves to be the essence of the song, and Alexis Kings seem to have taken notes from the Arctic Monkeys who have also shifted to music firmly rooted in rock music. Incredibly easy listening, 1972 has a simple but catchy refrain similar to their previous song ‘Brothers’.
For an unsigned band this is a fantastic piece of work which will hopefully propel them on to greater things!
