Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES, consisting of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty, are back with their latest single ‘Warning Call’. It is being released as part of the soundtrack for upcoming video game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The band released their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, back in 2013 and their second album, Every Open Eye, followed last year. ‘Warning Call’ is their first example of new material since their latest album, and will no doubt get fans excited for a potential third album.

The context of the game in which ‘Warning Call’ was written is something that deeply affects the track itself. The song is written from the perspective of the game’s lead character, Faith, so there are hints of the dystopic setting within Lauren Mayberry’s lyrics. Her flawless vocals reveal that “I won’t chase / Anyone who believed in what they stole”, hinting at the character’s quest to overthrow a totalitarian regime. The vocals are paired perfectly with a gentle synth backdrop, which grows in intensity as the song gains momentum.

The track is confident and truly exhibits the power of Mayberry’s vocals in combination with Cook and Doherty’s synthy melody. It is definitely worth taking the time to give ‘Warning Call’ a listen.

‘Warning Call’ is out now via Electronic Arts Music.
